I Was Diagnosed with SIBO and Had to Throw Away All the Food
A story from our community Our page often receives messages from people who are going through the process of discovering they have SIBO. Every case is different, but many share a similar moment: the day the diagnosis finally arrives.
A few days ago, a reader sent us her story.
For weeks she had doubts about what was happening to her body. Bloating, digestive discomfort, and the constant feeling that something in her diet wasn’t working anymore. Eventually, she decided to see a doctor, although getting an appointment for the SIBO test took several weeks.
When she finally took the test, it came back positive.
That same day, she made a decision that, as she told us, was frustrating but necessary. She opened her refrigerator and started checking everything inside. Many of the foods that used to be part of her routine were no longer compatible with the diet she needed to start.
She ended up throwing away some fresh food and donating the packaged items she still had that were unopened.
“It was a tough moment,” she wrote to us. “I felt frustrated because it seemed like everything I used to eat no longer had a place in my kitchen.”
But she also told us something important: things are starting to change. She’s learning which foods work better for her body and looking for recipes that fit her new way of eating.
Stories like this remind us that the SIBO journey often begins with big changes, but also with the opportunity to rebuild our relationship with food in a more conscious way.
Here we’ll continue sharing SIBO-friendly recipes and resources, so anyone going through that first moment knows they’re not alone.
